Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

Summer Term

  • A student must be registered for 12 credit hours in order to be considered full time for Summer Term
  • The maximum number for credit hours for which an undergraduate student may register during the summer term, based on his/her academic standing, is as follows:
    • GOOD - 16 semester hours
    • WARNING - 14 semester hours
    • PROBATION - 12 semester hours
  • The maximum number of credit hours for which a graduate student may register during the summer term is 16.
  • All registration for classes must be completed during the registration period. This includes short session classes, and courses offered through the Studies Abroad Program, regardless of the start and end dates of the course(s).
  • Taking courses at another institution during summer term:
    • Students who wish to attend another institution during the Summer Term, as a transient student, should apply to that institution, see their academic advisor to verify that the credit will be applicable to their degree, and verify that the course will transfer back to Ga Tech.
    • Students who wish to attend both Ga Tech and another institution during the same term should contact the Registrar's Office about cross registration
    • Students who wish to attend both Ga Tech and another institution, during the same term, that does not participate in the cross registration program, must petition the faculty for permission to be concurrently enrolled.
    • Students, who are within 36 hours of a degree from Ga Tech and wish to take a class at another institution that does not participate in the cross registration program, must petition the faculty for an exception to the 36 hour rule.
    • In order to receive credit for a course(s) taken at another institution, the student must have an official transcript sent to the Registrar's Office for evaluation.
  • Students, who are enrolled during the spring term and wish to sit out summer term, may return fall term. Students who sit out any two or more consecutive terms must apply for readmission.
